What To Expect When You Start Working
So you have found your new job and now it’s time to start preparing for the first day. There are a number of tips and tricks which will help you calm those nerves and ensure you make a great first impression with your new employer!
- Get a good night sleep! Make sure that the night before your first day at work you get a good night rest. This will ensure you turn up on your first day full of energy and ready to learn.
- Planning, planning, planning. There is nothing worse than being in a rush, especially when you are already nervous. If you will be taking the bus to your new place of employment make sure you research the bus timetable prior to an hour before you need to leave. If mum is driving you, give her lots of notice for what time you need to start. You don’t want to be late on your first day!
- Be ready to learn. A new job will require a whole bunch of new skills for you to learn. Make sure you start your new employment with an open mind to the skills they are trying to teach you and even the most basic skills can become valuable.
- Keep Calm. There is no point in worrying and stressing out about starting a new job! Your new employer will try to make your first day stress free and fun as possible.
- Ask Questions. Ensure throughout your first day you ask as many questions as you feel necessary, your new employer would much rather you ask the same question 10 times than not understand your duties.
Your first day will usually consist of an induction or on the job training depending on the field of work you have entered. The training and induction process can take the whole day, a few days or it can even be ongoing. Make sure you are prepared to take in as much as possible. Don’t forget, your employer wants to make you happy and love your job just as much as you want to impress them. So enjoy yourself!
